The Show 2011 - Kwantlen Polytechnic University

Busiest week of my life ! This week was the end of third term at our school, so there was so many tests and assignments that needed to be done. But thankfully, my fashion class gave me something to look forward to and to keep me running through the week. We travelled to Vancouver by bus to visit Kwantlen Polytechnic University to see their 2011 graduating class show. Each student graduating had to design a line with three ensembles and give it a name. All the designs were great, and I really recommend going to the show next year to anyone who is in fashion. It's great because before the show, you can meet some of the students and flip through their portfolios (which are laid out on fancy tables in a room with dimmed lights and a burgundy/gold colour scheme). Unfortunately, this year my school arrived late so we didn't have a chance to look at the portfolios, but I got to see them last year. It was hard to get good pictures because as I mentioned a few posts before, i dropped my camera, and it hasn't been working very well since, plus we couldn't use flash. So hopefully you guys can still somewhat enjoy the pictures !

My personal favourite? The big, sparkly red/orange prom dress, which was the finale :)

P.S - two outfit posts this weekend :)

Its Just Business

BLAZER, NECKLACE, RING - H&M
SHIRT/TUNIC - American Apparel

I've never really been one to wear blazers, they just aren't really my style. But throughout the past year or so, oversized menswear has been everywhere. I love it, but since I can't pull off the loose fitting office pants (which look great on the people who can, btw), I was tempted to buy this big blazer from H&M. I purchased it last year in march, but for some reason it has remained unworn in my closet until now. Oh, wait. My fashion forward friend did once borrow this for a birthday party, since I for some reason was too scared to wear it..

What pushed me to pull the blazer out and finally wear it was seeing these photos on Lily Melrose's blog. I've been reading her blog for a long time, and I find she inspires a lot of my outfits (I've used her photos in both of my 'how they wear it' posts. She puts together simple ensembles that absolutely always look incredible. I wanted to copy her whole look after seeing her photos with the big black blazer ! I love how refined it looks with a casual tunic and a statement necklace. I encourage all of you to follow her blog and her lookbook page, trust me, you wont regret it :)

Anyways I decided to take a couple pictures of my face today. I'm not quite blessed when it comes to photography...my dad loves taking pictures so he usually takes my outfit photos, and I asked him to take a couple pictures of my face. He said the lighting was bad and it wouldn't look as great as it could, but I was in a rush and just wanted to get the pictures done. I love getting dressed, but i don't like pictures being taken of myself, I think I look so awkward ! But oh well, I'm hoping to get into fashion not modelling....I hope the pictures turned out okay, i'm not really sure how to judge a good photo from a bad one !

Hope you're all doing well :)

Blue Day

SKIRT -- American Apparel
SWEATER, NECKLACE -- H&M

Wore this outfit to school today, comfy and cute i'd say :) I'm in love with all these new textures for spring. Velvet and leather are becoming my favourite, and I want more ! The only ways I can find to wear velvet are as a skirt, or a headband. I'm not too sure how else I would wear it, but I"m beginning to experiment...

Another short post and nothing too interesting, I hope you're all having a lovely week !

Pity and Fear

CARDIGAN, HEADBAND -- American Apparel
JEANS -- Gap
FLORAL CORSET -- Urban Outfitters
HARMONICA NECKLACE -- gift

Hello lovlies :) I'm so sorry, I broke my promise </3 I had a family emergency in Vancouver and had to leave, I was unable to post anything on my blog for a week, I"m sorry ! But today I took loads of pictures (I went shopping :)) so I'll be posting outfits throughout the week :) I'm also very sorry I haven't done a 'how they wear it' post in a while, I keep slacking off but I'll try my best to do that post at least once a week !

Anyways I think I'll wear this outfit to school tomorrow, I never like to look to dressed up on Mondays, not sure why. I bought this new headband from American Apparel and I absolutely love it, it's got a wire inside so its so easy to quickly put on and style.

Sadly my spring break ends tonight, and school starts tomorrow, but it was fun while it lasted. I went to Vancouver and Kelowna to visit family and shop, it was great :) I hope everyones spring break was fun, and if you haven't had it yet, I hope it will be fun !

Sorry I don't have much to say today, I just got home and its been busy busy getting ready for school and unpacking and such, talk soon :)

P.S - Hooray for me for actually putting an outfit together with nothing from H&M ! I have too much from there

Inspiration?

What inspires you in fashion? I'm thinking this post might come off as a bit cheesy, but today I just thought I'd  show you all what inspires me. And please comment and tell me what you fashion inspirations are, i'm genuinely interested :)

I spend most of my time in my basement, and in my room. My room is very very tiny, and the closet was smaller than average, so I bought shelves and put a closet together in my basement. I love it and i'm down there often. Even though my room is so small, its where I do my homework, where I sleep, where I read, I'm always in there ! So a few years ago I decided to redecorate, and I surrounded myself with colours and furniture that inspire me and that I love.

Vintage posters from Paris, they were so cheap I bought about 20.

Bad picture, but I like keep a small stack of magazines (seventeen, teen vogue or nylon) in my room whenever I need inspiration for an outfit.

My favourite perfumes, my number one is always anything by Ralph Lauren though.

I wanted my bedroom to look gothic/victorian/vintage - y, and I think thats what I got? I know the green blanket doesn't match but I usually put the black one on to make it work.

CLockwise from top:
The Teen Vogue Handbook, Facehunter - Yvan Rodic,
Fashion from the 10th to the 20th Century - The Kyoto Costume Institute,
Harper's Bazar: Great Style - Jenny Levin and Glenda Bailey,
Street View: the new Nylon Book of Global Style - Nylon,
The Lookbook.nu Lookbook - American Apparel,
Street: The Nylon Book of Global Style - Nylon.

All of these books are set on a high glass shelf on a wall in my bedroom, I look at them almost everyday. The teen Vogue Handbook is incredible, it's real and tells you what you need to do to get anywhere in the fashion industry. The Kyoto Fashion Institute book is great because it teaches you how fashion has changed, its really interesting to look through. Facehunter, the Nylon books and the American Apparel look book are all great for outfit ideas. Their pages are filled with photos of street fashion that will definitely get you inspired.

Those are all the things in my room that inspire me. I find fashion inspiration in almost anything, whether it be a book about fashion or someone walking down the street. So what inspires you?

PS - Even though I don't reply, I appreciate every comment I get, and I make sure to read them all. I'm trying to find an html code that will let me have a reply option, but everyone I've tried doesn't work or I'm just doing it wrong. Just letting you all know, I do read them and I love receiving them, so thankyou  for all the comments :)

..and I"ll have an outfit posted tomorrow, promise ! :)

. Jail Time

RING, SHIRT -- H&M
SCARF -- Joe, Superstore

I'm very sorry, but I don't have time to write a nice long interesting post. As I've said many times in previous posts, i'm so busy with school :( hopefully soon the business will die down and I can start posting more than once or twice a week.

I absolutely adore this shirt, I got it on sale at H&M and love it. Its a little short, so i usually wear it with leggings, but I thought it looked really cute with the sheer tights so I felt risky I threw them on instead. I also love wearing it opened up over a dresses, my favourite to wear it with is just a simple black knit dress. I pair it with a belt or big earrings so it doesn't look too plain. I'm getting sick of my topknot, and honestly, I think I've lost my touch at doing it well :( It looks lopsided and boring now ! I need new hair ideas, my hair is so long and thick and its boring when I just leave it down. Any ideas?

Hope you're all having a wonderful week :)

. Spring Break Wishlist

Have any of you guys been on American Apparel lately? That was probably a dumb question haha. Well I have, every day actually. I'm obsessed with every item that's on their 20 Styles x 20 looks page ! The riding pant, large carryall, corduroy circle skirt, I want them all ! American Apparel isn't exactly ethical, (my cousin used to work there and I've heard some pretty gruesome stories), and the ads are so sleazy it's a bit of a turn off, but they have clothing pieces that I can't find anywhere else. Unfortunately my fashion side has got the best of me. I'm going out of town to Vancouver and Kelowna this spring break, and then back to Vancouver again in April, so I'm hoping to get a bunch of new stuff. Here's my wishlist:

Lately I've been getting sick of my shorts skirts, and I've been dying to try mid-calf styles. The american apparel one above is my favourite one that I've seen so far, I love the pleats. I don't think I could ever pull off a floor length skirt or dress, though.

I have not been a very good blogger lately, school is honestly taking over my life. I don't mind, I like school and working for grades, but it seems like I have time for nothing else ! I promise I'll try to get atleast one outfit up a week plus a how they wear it. I took some pictures of what I wore today, I'll post them tomorrow :)
